East India & the Himalaya

Sikkim, Darjeeling, the Northeast states and Odisha.

East India & the Himalaya

The East is our deepest region. It runs from the temple coast of Odisha to the high passes of Arunachal Pradesh, by way of Sikkim, Darjeeling and the hills of the Northeast.

Most of it is run from Siliguri, where Bagdogra airport is the gateway for Sikkim and Darjeeling, and Guwahati opens the Northeast states of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. Permits matter more here than anywhere else in India, and they are filed by our team.

Two gateways

Bagdogra (IXB) for the Himalaya, Guwahati (GAU) for the Northeast.

Permits filed by us

North Sikkim, Arunachal ILP and Nagaland ILP handled for your client.

Sikkim & Darjeeling

Gangtok, Pelling, Lachen, Lachung, Darjeeling

Sikkim is India’s smallest Himalayan state and one of its easiest to sell: a compact circuit, a single airport gateway at Bagdogra, and a landscape that climbs from tea gardens to glacial lakes inside a week. Gangtok is the base, with Tsomgo Lake and the Nathu La pass on one side and the monasteries of Rumtek and Enchey within reach of the town.

Assam

Guwahati, Kaziranga, Majuli

Assam is where most Northeast itineraries begin. Guwahati has the region’s busiest airport and the Kamakhya temple on Nilachal hill, and the Brahmaputra runs wide and slow past the city.

Meghalaya

Shillong, Cherrapunji, Dawki, Mawlynnong

Meghalaya, “the abode of clouds”, is a plateau of pine forest and limestone cut by deep gorges, a short drive up from Guwahati. Shillong, the capital, is a hill town of colonial churches, music cafés and the Ward’s Lake promenade.

Arunachal Pradesh

Tawang, Dirang, Bomdila, Bum La, Sangetsar

Arunachal Pradesh is the largest state in the Northeast and the least visited, which is much of its appeal. The western circuit, reached from Guwahati or Tezpur, crosses the Sela Pass at over 4,100 metres to reach Tawang, home to the largest monastery in India.

Nagaland

Kohima, Kisama, Dzukou Valley

Odisha

Puri, Konark, Bhubaneswar, Chilika

Odisha’s golden triangle is one of the richest temple circuits in India. Bhubaneswar, the “temple city”, still has hundreds of shrines, from the Lingaraja to the small and perfect Mukteshwar, and the Jain caves of Udayagiri and Khandagiri on the edge of town.
