About Rajasthan

Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Pushkar

Rajasthan is the land of the Rajputs, and its cities still read like a roll-call of princely capitals. Jaipur, the Pink City, has the Amber Fort and the City Palace; Jodhpur, the Blue City, sits below the Mehrangarh Fort; and Udaipur, the city of lakes, has the City Palace rising from Lake Pichola.

In the west, Jaisalmer’s golden sandstone fort is still lived in, and the dunes at Sam and Khuri are the place for a camel ride and a night under desert stars. Pushkar, on its sacred lake, has one of the very few Brahma temples in India and a famous camel fair in October or November.

Many of the old palaces and havelis are now heritage hotels, which lets a client stay inside the history rather than just visit it. Ranthambore, a tiger reserve under a ruined fort, adds wildlife to a palace trip.
