Ahmedabad, Kutch, Somnath, Dwarka, Gir
Gujarat combines pilgrimage, wildlife and one of the most unusual landscapes in India. Ahmedabad, India’s first UNESCO World Heritage city, has the old walled city, its stepwells and the Sabarmati Ashram of Mahatma Gandhi.
In the west, the Rann of Kutch turns into a white salt desert in winter, and the Rann Utsav brings a tented city, music and crafts to Dhordo from about November to February. The Kutch villages are known for embroidery, mirror-work and pottery.
Along the Saurashtra coast lie Somnath and Dwarka, two of the most sacred temples in Hinduism, while Gir National Park is the only home of the Asiatic lion. The Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, stands on the Narmada at Kevadia.
