About Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Jagdalpur, Chitrakote, Barnawapara, Sirpur

Chhattisgarh is one of the least crowded states in India, with more than two-fifths of its land under forest and a culture shaped by its tribal communities. Raipur, the capital, is the arrival point and the base for the plains.

In the south, Bastar is the heart of the state. Chitrakote Falls on the Indravati, often called the Niagara of India, is at its widest in and after the monsoon, and Tirathgarh Falls and the Kanger Valley caves are close by. The weekly tribal markets and the long Bastar Dussehra festival give the region its character.

Closer to Raipur, Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary offers jeep safaris, and Sirpur on the Mahanadi has early temples and Buddhist monastery ruins, including the brick Lakshmana Temple.
